Waffle Wednesday

Before we began THE TEST, I told my students that if they all tried their very best, we would have a treat. They tried their very best and today was the treat.  Waffle Wednesday!   I brought in my waffle iron, some pancake mix, and syrup.  I spent the good part of the morning making waffles for my students.  Mind you, I only have 12 students so it didn’t take nearly as long as it would if I had a normal sized class.  The kids were so excited.  “Can I be next?”, “Can I have another one?” (no, one Belgian waffle per customer).  We even had visitors.  It seems the smell of waffles cooking attracted everyone in the building.  Custodians that are never in my side of the building showed up, the lunch ladies showed up, junior high students were pressing their faces into the window to see what was going on, and the principal and both deans put in an appearance.  They got waffles, none of our other visitors did.  After all, they were invited.  🙂    I always regret taking on projects like this but then I see their faces, how happy they are, how content they are to have food in their bellies, and I think, maybe we can do this again.

I could almost smell the waffles…and how funny that so many visitors showed up. Love the sense of humor in this — and your service to your students.

What a great idea – and now I’m thinking about how I could do waffles with my class.

I never thought about waffle Wednesday, how clever and I love you realized the joy in their faces pushes us to do more work.
